Carol Jackson
The Youth of Today is a major youth leadership programme for young people aged 13-19, aiming to increase the quality, quantity and diversity of opportunities for young people as leaders of change in their communities. Funded by the DCSF, The Youth of Today is led by a consortium of leading organisations previously known as the National Body for Youth Leadership. This includes The National Youth Agency, British Youth Council, Changemakers, Citizenship Foundation, Prince's Trust, UK Youth Parliament and The Young Foundation. Carol is a genuine advocate for young people, believes every young person has potential to achieve great things and has inspired many young people to do so. She has worked in youth and community work for over 20 years at a national level as well as in the East Midlands and London. This involved working in partnership with public, private and voluntary sector organisations to secure positive outcomes for young people. Prior to working at the Young Foundation, she was Director of Youth Work at Community Links in Newham, East London. Previously she worked at the National Youth Agency and specialised in the learning and achievement of young people and worked with NIACE on the Young Adults Learning Partnership. She has written and contributed to a number of related publications including Getting Connected, an innovative curriculum framework designed to support disengaged young adults to reconnect with learning and foster their personal development. She also worked in a young people's rehabilitation centre in Belize for the Ministry of Human Development working with the Director and staff team on organisational development and strategy, income generation, staff training and developing young people's projects. Carol joined the Young Foundation in May 2009 and is the Senior Associate for The Youth of Today Leadership Fund, based in the Learning Launchpad team.
