Technology and social innovation

The potential for the web to create social change holds some really exciting opportunities for social ventures. There are some great examples already out there: Freecycle for your recycling, School of Everything to learn stuff and Fixmystreet for improving your local neighbourhood.

Beyond the web, mobile or other applied technology will also have a role in changing the way social issues are addressed. From innovation in the criminal justice sector to applicaiton of technology in novel ways to support social care and the ability of people to manage long term conditions or changing beahaviours in how we approach issues of sustainability.

We are searching for ideas and novel applications of technology and alongside this are also seeing technology entrepreneurs apply their experitse and skills in tackling social issues - a very exciting trend!   Social Innovation Camp which we are supporting is an initiative looking to facilitate the generation of new ideas by bringing together  entrepreneurs and technologists to address social needs.
